Unity Living Cultural Archive

Unity is a project that aims to raise awareness of immigration communities in Hong Kong and allowing them to celebrate their own cultures and traditions. Ideally this space would be a living cultural archive of traditions and traits.

The process started by understanding the history of the immigrants and their home country. To better understand the culture and what it beholds, I started from analyzing the langue and  went through multiple interviews to collect personal experiences. Eventually I had the opportunity to also join traditional celebrations as a guest. The tragic history of these is helping the community to stay together but the second generation has harder time identifying themselves either local or part of their own culture.

This interactive communal and social design project aims to bring together the different users of the site. Most of the time the building is occupied by the local school children, but during evenings and weekends, the spaces are used for immigrant communities celebrations and native tongue classes for the children. This space would allow these two to interact and ideally bring these minorities loser to the locals.
