Throughout the history, the purpose of a staircase have changed drastically. It all started from a simple purpose of offering an access from one level to another. Since then the scale and details have become more elaborate. Technical advancement brought in new materials and solutions. Today, elevators and lifts have been taking over the central stage of a traditional staircase. These days staircases seems to be merely a government requirement - the backside exit.

However, this project aims to challenge the perception of stairs through implementing a new design idea into a space saving concept for high ceiling lofts and traditional shops. This industrial style staircase provides better user experience than the commonly used ladder, providing full support like a typical staircase, allowing you to easily move between floors with heavy carriage or poor physical condition. At the same time, it can be easily lifted by the wall to provide needed space to your store or apartment.

The project focuses on showcasing technical drawing skills and understanding details all the way from the drawings on paper to the working 1:1 detail model.
